Classes are taught by Kristie, KLDA's Principal.

Kristie began dancing when she was three & she's never looked back! Her warm, friendly-but-firm approach to teaching makes her classes fun, keeps her students engaged & helps the students achieve excellent exam results!

Aged 11, Kristie started attending a local dance school in Hertford where her love for dance grew from strength to strength. It was here she was introduced to the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) syllabus.

At 18, Kristie started studying the Degree Dance Course at the University of Chichester. Here she trained in Contemporary Dance, Contact Improvisation & Ballet, alongside modules in dance history, dance movement therapy, dance criticism & choreography. She completed her final year with a dissertation on 'Dance in Primary Education: An Essential Educational Tool for Children's Development, Learning & Play', & she graduated with a Dance BA (Hons).

Knowing that her passion was to teach, in 2012 Kristie applied & was accepted to train at Penny Meekings' 'The Dance College' to work towards her ISTD DDE teacher training qualifications. Alongside regular training, Kristie took a variety of classes at the college in order to develop a broad range of dance styles, including Contemporary Dance, Rhythm Tap, Yoga & Pilates. Kristie also achieved her Advanced 2 Vocational Exams at this time.

In 2016, having completed all modules & exams Kristie became an Associate of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (DDE) in Imperial Ballet, Modern Theatre, Tap Dance & National Dance.

Kristie has been teaching for nearly 10 years starting off as an assistant in classes, before gaining her own classes in a local dance school, building up more & more experience as the years went by. She has helped many students achieve fantastic examinations results in ISTD syllabi from Primary to Advanced Vocational grades in Ballet, Modern, Tap & National genres. She has choreographed for many students who attend dance festivals around the country, watching them gain high amendments & many medals over the years. She has also been part of creating & choreographing many dance shows at theatres such as Hertford Theatre & Campus West.

Kristie still attends courses at the ISTD regularly, always keen to learn & expand her teaching knowledge. She also commits to her own personal training by attending teacher Ballet classes, National Dance summer schools & any other classes she can get to!

Kristie has just gained Licentiate status with the ISTD in National Dance, she is also hoping to work towards other Licentiate teaching qualifications.

Kristie also works alongside Active Creative Dinky Dancers, working with parent & toddler groups & nurseries, works in local Primary Schools in the Hertfordshire area & also worked with Hertfordshire Gymnastics Club as the dance teacher & choreographer for their competition Acro Squad.

Kristie is First Aid Trained, DBS Checked & holds a Professional Chaperone License.

"Kristie is an amazing Dance teacher - could not ask for better & would recommend this Dance School to anyone."

BA (Hons) in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre

KLDA's Wednesday & Saturday classes now welcome Miss Steph.

Steph began dancing at the age of 4 and hasn’t stopped since. She studied Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz and Contemporary at Let's Dance Academy in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, where she excelled in her ISTD dance exams and performed in numerous shows. Steph went on to be hired as a dance teacher there and became the choreographer of their elite dance company, Spectrum.

During her academic years, she brought her creativity to school, participating in numerous dance clubs, performing in musicals and eventually becoming dance captain, where she not only ran multiple dance activities, but also choreographed a full school musical production.

Enhancing her knowledge of dance further, she went on to gain a GCSE and A-Level in Dance. At this point, Steph was certain she desired a career in dance through both performing and teaching, and became one step closer to this dream when offered a place at Doreen Bird College.

Since graduating with a BA (Hons) in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre, Steph has been teaching at various dance schools, where she has been able to bring the fun to dance, making sure her students leave her classes feeling happy, de-stressed and of course worked hard!

Steph is an inspiring teacher; she is constantly in and around the industry, keeping up to date with current styles and techniques used today. Her passion and enthusiasm are something she wants to share with others, encouraging future generations.

Steph is First Aid Trained & DBS Checked.

KLDA's younger classes are supported by some of our students. They take time out of their weekend to assist Miss Kristie/Miss Steph by helping to give individual attention, encouragement & help demonstrate in the classes.

They love helping out & the classes would not be the same without them! And the children in the classes love them too!

KLDA's younger classes are also supported by Miss Kristie's grandmother. She is always around on a Saturday morning in case an extra pair of hands are needed. She also helps with all sort of things from crafting wrist-ribbons to assist knowing the difference from left & right to any additional sewing needs that the school may require.

We strive to keep KLDA as a supportive community & many parents & students often get involved to help the school's many events throughout the year; fund-raising events, end-of-term parties, summer time shows etc...
